Team Fortress 2

Shadow | Games | Thursday, November 29th, 2007

Well, what can I say – you just have to get this game!

Team Fortress 2 is one of the best multiplayer warfare I’ve seen in a long time. Forget Enemy Territory and others – in this  brilliant game you can choose from a variety of classes each equally playable and with their own special advantage – if this advantage is used correctly in conjunction with your other team mates you can really dominate the field.

If you’re looking for me online, I am usually on the GameArena servers (basic map rotation) with the handle Shadow XVII (17- just in case you’re wondering: my birthday in December :) )

See you in the battlefield!

Dell Laptop – SigmaTel Sound Chipset & Stereo Mix

Shadow | Hardware | Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

Got a Dell laptop and with the SigmaTel sound chipset and stuck with all it’s advanced features such as lack of stereo mix? Dont worry, a solution is here.

Note: The solution below no longer applies as Dell have finally released a driver update supporting Stereo Mix. Check the Drivers and Downloads section of the Techincal Support on Dell’s website then use the appropriate utilities to locate the new driver.
The drivers release date is marked as the 12/4/2007, v.5.10.0.5515_Rc22, try this direct download link: R171789.exe

Firstly install the Dell SigmaTel drivers, then simply go to http://au.lge.com/support/software.jsp then set the Product field to Notebook, leave the Series to All, Choose your OS and set it accordingly then make the subject SigmaTel. You should get three results , you want [Sound/2000/XP] SigmaTel Sound Driver Ver 5.10.0.4866 XNOTE(LE50). Download this driver and install it to get Stereo Mix on the SigmaTel chipset. Simple :-)

PortWiki: Router Tutorials, AJAX and more!

Shadow | PortWiki | Saturday, November 17th, 2007

Well I am starting to impress even myself when looking at how this project is really coming together, of course with the help of MediaWiki & Extensions. AJAX Category Trees have stepped in providing an even simpler user interface than before.

A new category has also been added, ‘Routers’. Coinidental with its name, Routers contains sub-categories of manufacturers which contain sub-pages of the router models each containing instructions on how to configure port forwarding for that model. I copied all the easy create article setup into both sections which means its easy to add your own if you feel like it.

I am very near to finishing the port pinger section, just a small glitch with the get variables on top of ?title=.

Another successfull day,

Rune Messenger

Shadow | Programming | Sunday, November 11th, 2007

Typing the same message to sell your ‘rune full helm’ can be really tiering especially when if you don’t vary you’re messages and you get stung for bots!

This program takes care of all those issues, you are able to preset up to 10 messages with unlimited variations, each being assigned to <hk> + 1 – 10. <hk> represents Ctrl (default) and Alt which can be chosen from in the options section of the application.

When setting the messages, tags such as red: or blue: will change the text accordingly, and is compatible with the text colours used within Runescape.

Note: As Runescape has been updated since the release of this program, I cannot guarentee compatability. It does not ‘inject’ or ‘modify’ the game in anyway, just sends keystrokes which should maintain through Runescape updates.

PortWiki: Port Pinger

Shadow | PortWiki | Sunday, November 11th, 2007

This utility was made more for myself however I decided to release it into the public domain because it was just so handy.

It can be used in several ways, Firstly it is able to test your own computers firewall security. Secondly it is able to tell you whether those ports you just forewarded will work from another location without having to bother anyone. Handy Eh ;-)

PortWiki: Adding Ports, Games and Application

Shadow | PortWiki | Sunday, November 11th, 2007

One of the biggest challenged i faced was attempting to create a structure of templates and categories within wikimedia to accomodate for the port, game and application structure, overall it needed to be easy for users to add content easily.

I made my own extensions to suit the requirements of the site instead of relying on multiple extensions at one time, within my ‘ShadowFunctions’ I made simple looping php scripts to parse ports in the format of #,#,# and automatically place the applications and games that use those ports into the right categories.

VPC Kiosk

Shadow | Projects & Development | Saturday, November 10th, 2007

Imagine being able to walk to your local internet cafe but instead of restricting yourself to the limited resouces avaliable on that machine, instead you are able to insert your usb and load a virtual machine with all your personalisation and files. This effectivley will allow carry a usb on your keychain which can be loaded at any of these VPC Kiosks.

I am currently trying to develop an interface that will allow for this in VB.net however it is quite difficult having to use a closed-source Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 in order to obtain this ‘kiosk’ functionality.

Progress:

I have made the GUI which detects the insertion of a usb and performs the finding of all virtual machines on the usb device. However I have hit a roadblock with the VPC configuration files which may take some time and effort to overcome.
